Policies and Fees

Archive use is by appointment only. The archive is generally open from 8-12 and 1-5 Monday through Friday. The archive may be closed for a limited number hours each week, depending on student assistant availability. Please call (517)355-3771 to set up an appointment with one of the archive assistants.

The use of aerial imagery archive is regulated by the following policy. The charges reflect the cost associated with staffing, maintaining, and improving the archive. This policy allows us to continue serving the aerial photo needs of users.

• There is a $60.00 fee to access the aerial photo archive onsite. After the first hour of use, there will be a $30.00 charge for each additional hour of archive use (billable in increments of $7.50 per 15 minutes).
  
  
• Imagery available digitally may be accessed via a computer terminal located in the Archive. Black and White laser prints are available free of charge.
  
  
• Digital images are available for purchase at a cost of $30.00/image. It is necessary to fill out an Imagery Services, Fees and Conditions form before digital images can be purchased (Imagery Services, Fees and Conditions form).
  
• Photographs that have not been scanned will be available for use in the Archive.
  
  
• Hardcopy photographs, that are not also available digitally, may be checked out for a two-week period for a fee of $12.00/photo. Clients may extend or renew the initial checkout period for an additional two weeks for an additional fee of $12.00/photo.
  
  
• Photos that are not returned by the end of the two-week check out period are considered late, and will be assessed a late fee of $20.00 per photo.
  
  
• Lost photos, or those extensively damaged, are assessed a fee of $75.00 per photo.

Remote Access to Archive Resources

• Clients may e-mail, fax or call to order Aerial images from the Archive.
  
  
• Digital images or photo quality copies (laser prints on photo paper) may be purchased for $25.00/image.
  
  
• Digital images are delivered on a CD by U.S. mail in a file format specified by the client (TIFF or JPEG typical). Digital images may also be sent by e-mail or FTP or by express mail for an additional charge.
  
  
• It is necessary to fill out an Imagery Services, Fees and Conditions form before digital images can be purchased (Imagery Services, Fees and Conditions form)

Additional Information

• Invoices are to be paid within 10 days. Invoices not paid within 30 days will be billed an additional $25.00 late fee.
  
  
• Michigan State University Students, Staff and Faculty are exempt from all onsite fees, except late, damaged or lost photo charges. Exemption only applies to University business, research or education.
  
  
• Anticipated exceptions to the photo use charge policy will be very rare. Federal, State and local agencies who contribute to the archive collection will be considered cooperators and are exempt from access and use charges.
  
  
• Organizations and individuals exempt from access and use charges will be limited to checking out 20 photos for any two week period. Those requiring access to a large number of photos, especially those operating with grant funds, will be charged a per photo fee, which will be negotiated for individual cases.
